OFF THE COAST

A PHOTOGRAPHIC RETREAT WITH

ALESSANDRA SANGUINETTI & JIM GOLDBERG

Through this island retreat participants will get the chance to regroup in a small group setting to reset their creative aspirations receiving feedback and guidance from two of today’s most formidable photography mentors, Alessandra Sanguinetti and Jim Goldberg. These 5 days together tucked away on beautiful Bowen Island will include individual meetings with both mentors, in-depth group critiques of ongoing project and existing work, short assignments to create and edit new imagery in response to critical input, as well as numerous lectures, conversations, and social gatherings making for a uniquely immersive and nurturing learning experience. The goal will be to move past creative roadblocks, identify and foster novel approaches in their practices, and bring to the surface untapped inspiration to be followed upon post workshop. The retreat will also offer an ideal framework in support of key projects, i.e. book or other publication, upcoming exhibition, or any other presentation of importance.

In preparation, participants will be required to upload relevant portfolios and statements online via FotoFilmic 1-2 weeks before the start of the retreat so that Alessandra and Jim can familiarize themselves with their specific backgrounds and current work. Post-retreat, a special-issue newsprint publication will be produced by FotoFilmic presenting final edits of the new work made, and celebrating the group’s newfound path while “off the coast” of their usual photographic lives.
