Locations: Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, Ohio
Portland, Maine
Portland, Maine is home to our summer workshop series. Portland is a historic seacoast town with a funky vibe, working waterfront, and large art scene. Maine’s largest city (but still quaint by most standards) boasts plenty of art, food, and outdoor activities. Our workshops are hosted at two different locations: The Bakery Collective and Maine Studio Works. The Bakery Collective is a self-service photographic studio with state of the art analog and digital facilities located near Woodford’s Corner. Maine Studio Works is an 8,000 sqft production/photo studio and private event space in the heart of the East Bayside neighborhood of Portland, Maine.
North Adams, Massachusetts
Our Fall Retreat is hosted at TOURISTS. TOURISTS is a hotel and riverside retreat in North Adams inspired by the classic American roadside motor lodge. Once a manufacturing powerhouse in the late 19th century and early 20th century, the town has transformed itself into the cultural hub of the Northern Berkshires. North Adams is home to MASS MoCA, the largest contemporary art museum in the United States. As a global art destination it attracts tens of thousands of visitors from around the world each year. North Adams is nestled in the bottom of a valley surrounded by ancient green mountains of the Hoosic Range and Mount Greylock State Reservation. Downtown is threaded by two branches of the Hoosic River that once powered all the mills.
Pray, Montana
The Chico Review takes place at Chico Hot Springs Resort in Paradise Valley, at the foot of Emigrant Peak and two miles from the trout-laden Yellowstone River. We’ve reserved private cabins rooms on the 150-acre property. Activities at Chico start at its steamy natural hot springs, with two open-air pools averaging 96 and 103 degrees year-round. The Yellowstone River and surrounding spring creeks that slice through the wide-open glacial valley are fly fishing meccas during warmer months. You’ll eat well at Chico Hot Springs. There’s a dining room, cocktail lounge, saloon, and diner on the premises.
